NDLEA Clarifies on contempt charges against its bosses

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has described the alleged contempt charge against the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Agency, Ahmadu Giade, and the Director General of the Agency, Mrs. Roli Bode-George and others as defective and an abuse of court process. The applicant, Prince Benjamin Saliu Ikani who is an Assistant Commander was suspended in respect of suit no. FHC/L/CS/1130/13 but has deceitfully sought for refuge under an order granted in 2010 on a separate case.
The applicant was suspended by the Agency for acts amounting to falsehood and prevarication, disobedience to lawful authority and conduct prejudice to discipline.
According to the Director of Prosecution and Legal Services of the Agency, Mr. Sunday Nbona, “Prince Benjamin Saliu Ikani who is involved in series of litigations against the Agency while still on the employment of the Agency continued to behave as an officer above the rules of engagement in the Agency, a situation which is not only dangerous but inimical to discipline in a security organization like the NDLEA”.
The Agency also stated that the Director General, Roli Bode George was not the Director General of the Agency when the alleged order was made in 2010. Furthermore, no Contempt Proceedings or Application by way of Form 48 was served on her with details of the order she is alleged to be in contempt according to the rules of procedure. The applicant has only chosen to include the DG’s name in the application to achieve cheap attention in the eye of the public.
In addition to the above, the Notice of Preliminary Objection filed against the contempt proceedings by the Agency shows that the contempt proceedings filed against the Director General and others has no ground upon which it can stand. The order alleged to have been disobeyed was in suit no. FHC/L/CS/1130/13 currently pending before the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. The Agency wonders how a contempt proceeding can be initiated at the National Industrial Court in a matter not before the Industrial Court but before the Federal High Court.
The applicant who is fond of seeking undue attention is only trying to raise unnecessary dust by involving the name of the Director General and her husband in a matter that purely borders on the discipline of an employee by his employer- the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

How Nigerians celebrated Buhari

Emeka Ibemere
The celebration was fit for a king, as they were highly elated with the results of the last March 28 Presidential election, conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The celebration wasn’t only for the prominent members of the All Progress Congress, APC, and their supporters who went into victory dance. Youths, women, who strapped kids on their back, men and young girls, school children on holidays, mothers and the aged including young ones on motorcycles, cabs hutting horns, and other supporters of APC whose candidate is the President-in waiting equally embarked on victory show on the streets in jubilation, throughout the federation.
In the Northern zone of the country, the crowd braved the hot afternoon weather to celebrate the victory. In the Southern axis of Nigeria, APC supporters weren’t left out in the game of dance. The celebration at the popular Conference Centre Abuja, the capital city warmed the hearts of families, friends, and fans of the APC.
It was the celebration of Muhammadu Buhari, who claimed victory in Nigeria's presidential elections announced by Professor Attahiru Mohammadu Jega, the Chairman of INEC.
The nation erupted into victory shouts immediately the final results of the election, which declared Muhammadu Buhari; the next President in-waiting of the federal Republic of Nigeria was announced.
Former military dictator and a born-again democrat, Muhammadu Buhari become Nigeria’s president elect after defeating President Goodluck Jonathan in the first democratic change of power ever in Africa's most populous nation.
On hearing the results, as the next President, and having won the election, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari waved to supporters in Abuja as he shows interest on the results.
Even as the victory dance was going on, President Jonathan publicly conceded defeat, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the nation.
"I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word," the 57-year-old said in a statement after the final results were announced with Buhari coasting home with some 2.57 million votes ahead. Buhari's All Progressives Congress (APC) won 21 states, while Mr Jonathan's PDP was on 15, plus the Federal Capital Territory at Abuja.
Jonathan's defeat is the first time in Nigeria’s 16 years of uninterrupted democracy that a sitting president has not won a second term or handed power to an interim government.
The outgoing President urged disputes over the results to be settled in court, adding: "Nobody's ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country are more important than anything else."
“This is the first time in Nigeria that a sitting government will be voted out of power using purely democratic means,” said Lai Mohammed, the senior spokesman for Mr Buhari’s All Progressives Congress party. “The people of Nigeria have taken over.”
In the religiously mixed northern city of Kaduna, where 800 people were killed in violence after the last elections in 2011, Buhari supporters streamed onto the streets to celebrate his victory.
Buhari’s supporters were ecstatic at the result and see the moment as historic in the life of the country.
Johanna Andrew, a 30-year old businesswoman, said she was confident that Buhari was going to win.
“I was 100 percent sure from day one this man is going to win because he has ruled the country before," she said. "Though I was a little child, what I heard about him, he ruled this country very well. There was no corruption. This is a man that will support you and take care of you." Murtala Olatunji, a teacher, said the country needs a new leader. “We need change because what’s going on in this country is very bad," she said. "When you look at the dollars before we change it for 190. Now its 250. The economy is going very bad. We want change. We want General Muhammadu Buhari to change this country for us.”
Apart from President Goodluck Jonathan who first congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on his victory, many other prominent Nigerians also called the retired general to express their happiness. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC national leader, former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Ibrahim Babangida, and others on hearing that Buhari has won the election, also went into celebration mood for Buhari’s successful fourth attempt at gaining the presidential seat.
Other Nigerians all over the country, especially youths took over the social media-Facebook, Twitter, instagram, BB, Whatsup and others to celebrate the victory with some of them making gestures, cartoons, abuses, praises and solidarity. Others equally went on to broadcast their joys while rejoicing to the rest of the world the exit of the sitting president. Some Jonathan’s supporters went on social media to acknowledge the results while others refused to accept the results. They condemned the results on Facebook and failed to appreciate the effort of Jega and his INEC.
President Goodluck Jonathan has called on his supporters as well as members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to be in a celebratory mood rather than mourning because he has kept his word of ensuring a free and fair election.
“I promised the country free and fair elections. I have kept my word. I have also expanded the space for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process. That is one legacy I will like to see endure.
“Although some people have expressed mixed feelings about the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), I urge those who may feel aggrieved to follow due process based on our constitution and our electoral laws, in seeking redress”, he stated.
“As I have always affirmed, nobody’s ambition is worth the blood of any Nigerian. The unity, stability and progress of our dear country are more important than anything else. “I congratulate all Nigerians for successfully going through the process of the March 28th General Elections with the commendable enthusiasm and commitment that was demonstrated nationwide.
“I also commend the Security Services for their role in ensuring that the elections were mostly peaceful and violence-free. “To my colleagues in the PDP, I thank you for your support. Today, the PDP should be celebrating rather than mourning. We have established a legacy of democratic freedom, transparency, economic growth and free and fair elections. “For the past 16 years, we have steered the country away from ethnic and regional politics. We created a Pan-Nigerian political party and brought home to our people the realities of economic development and social transformation. “Through patriotism and diligence, we have built the biggest and most patriotic party in Nigerian history. We must stand together as a party and look to the future with renewed optimism”.
“I thank all Nigerians once again for the great opportunity I was given to lead this country and assure you that I will continue to do my best at the helm of national affairs until the end of my tenure”.
In the city of Maiduguri, Borno state, young people invaded the streets dancing, playing music and chanting “only Buhari” in the Hausa language. General Buhari has also received congratulations from the renowned Nigerian politicians and opinion makers.
In Kano State, supporters of the presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari and his APC party celebrated with funfair. With Buhari’s victory, those volatile northern states replaced violence with victory songs and shouts of Sey Buhari!
The Nigeria’s biggest commercial metropolis, and the northeast capital of Maiduguri, which has been under siege from Islamist Boko Haram militants celebrated the victory.
Tens of thousands of people in Kano celebrated the victory of the Buhari. Among those celebrating were women and youths dressed in the national colours while others wore brocade in different colours. They marched through the streets of Kano celebrating Buhari's victory.
According to reports, buses were filled with people standing on the roof tops waved to the crowd, throwing out posters of General Muhammadu Buhari.
Okada riders also carried people including young girls celebrating in styles to the overwhelmed crowds who stormed major roads and streets of Kano.
At the Kano Government House, youths and women in their thousands holding brooms stormed the main gate dancing while others were sharing free gifts of drinks to people as part of their celebration.
It was gathered that in the rural areas of Kano, villagers engaged in cooking and dancing as part of their celebration over the victory of Buhari, while tricycle operators offer free ride to people to their various destination as their tricycles are adorned with Buhari posters.
At Sabon Gari area which is highly populated with non-indigenes, the area is sounding different as they played music of solidarity to the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
In Kaduna State, youths streamed down the streets of flashpoint northern cities waving flags and chanting in celebration of a stunning election victory by opposition candidate, northerner Muhammadu Buhari.
The entire north had been calm and deserted for most of the day as panicky residents stayed indoors, glued to radio and television sets for results from the electoral commission.
However, as it became apparent that Buhari, a northern Muslim, had won the election, many emerged from their homes, shouting in celebration. Young men on motor bikes sped down Kaduna's main avenue, performing stunts and waving flags and brooms symbolic of Buhari's opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
"I came out to celebrate because Buhari has won. I joined the queue, I waited and I voted because I want change in Nigeria," said Abubakar Musa, a 42-year-old trader in the midst of the throng in Kaduna.
Even though the results were not yet official, Musa, who confessed to switching allegiances from Jonathan's ruling PDP party, said he was confident that no backroom shenanigans could deny Buhari victory.
"I don't think the Federal Government can change the results now. When you look at the results so far, when you look at the margin that Buhari is leading with, there is no way that can change," he said.
The police stood by and watched as the masses marched past, dancing, singing and waving APC flags, while a helicopter flew overhead in the opposition's stronghold neighbourhood.
As police and army trucks drove by moments later, soldiers raised their fists in triumph, eliciting roars of approval from the crowd.
Along Lagos Street, another opposition stronghold, hundreds stood on balconies, chanting, waving and dreaming of a new era for Nigeria.
"We are not happy. Our kids don't have jobs. We need change in Nigeria. We want a turnaround," said Khadija Ousman, a 40-year-old trader dancing in front of the stall where she sells soft drinks and bread. We have tested other parties. Now we want to try APC. If they don't do anything, we'll kick them out," She stated.
In Ogun State, hundreds of Buhari supporters took to the streets of Sagamu and Ijebu Ode to celebrate. In Sagamu, the party supporters thronged the party secretariat on Ewusi Street around 6pm armed with brooms amidst fanfare to celebrate Buhari’s victory.
It was celebration galore in Osogbo as youths also took to the streets. From Oke-Fia to Ola Iya to Oke Baale, hundreds of youths sang the praise of Buhari to high heavens.
Adebanjo, who is a staunch supporter of President Jonathan, said the wishes of the people must be respected.
The 87-year-old said, “I have nothing personal against Buhari, I don’t hate the man but I cannot forget what he did in the past. He says he is now a democrat but we did not believe him. But now that he has won, he must prove us wrong by being a true democrat.”
Thousands of Akwa Ibom residents thronged the streets of Uyo, the state capital, and other towns Tuesday, singing songs and waving brooms – the symbol of the All Progressives Congress – to celebrate the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s president-elect.
In Imo State, Rochas Okorocha Imo state governor, congratulated Muhammadu Buhari on the victory in the presidential election.
While the official results are yet to be announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, after the release of the figures from Borno state, Okorocha allegedly send congratulatory messages to the All Progressives Congress candidate.
Okorocha reacted with a statement in which he described Buhari’s victory as divine.
“By virtue of Buhari’s victory, Ndigbo and Imo people in particular, can now appreciate the wisdom behind his decision to be part of the merger.”
In Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun expressed joy saying that the Nigerians demonstrated confidence in Buhari’s strong leadership qualities.
“The people have spoken and demonstrated with their votes, their confidence in the ability of the president elects to pull the nation out of its present economic woes.” Amosun hopes that the opposition leader would bring the much anticipated and needed security and economic growth. “I convey my best wishes and look forward to a prosperous and great country under your leadership.”
From the North-East to the North-Central, North-West, South-South, South-East and South-West, the young, the old, male and female jumped onto the streets to celebrate a record-breaking political victory in the political history book of Nigeria.
A cross-section of prominent Nigerians has, however, described the victory of Buhari, who had failed on three consecutive attempts to clinch the presidency, as the dawn of a new order for Nigeria.

A chieftain of pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, Ayo Adebanjo; leader of the Oodua People’s Congress, Gani Adams; National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria, Fredrick Fasehun, among others celebrated the victory.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo also congratulated Buhari over his victory at the poll, charging him to fight corruption and carry out reforms in different sectors.
Obasanjo noted that so much harm had already been done to many national institutions including the military, however, he advised him to be magnanimous in victory. He said, “With so much harm already done to many national institutions including the military, which proudly nurtured you and I, you will have a lot to do on institution reforms – education, health care, economy, security, infrastructure, power, youth employment, agri-business, oil and gas, external affairs, cohesiveness of our nation and ridding our land of corruption.”
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar also congratulated the winner, saying the victory symbolises national rebirth.
“Your victory in the polls, with votes from across the length and breadth of our country, bears witness to the acceptance of not just our party, the APC, but also your ideology of justice, fair play and zero tolerance for corruption as the bedrock for national rebirth.”
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, hailed Nigerians for coming out to peacefully vote in the presidential and National Assembly elections.
The Sultan also commended President Jonathan for calling Buhari to congratulate him on his victory at the polls.
“I have heard so many comments from so many people across the country and some parts of the world. The elections have been very peaceful in most part of the country and I have seen that the voters and electoral officials behaved very well and everything went so smoothly.”

Hitler of Lagos: Igbos, other Nigerians react

Emeka Ibemere
Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu may have given Igbos a kind of threat, Adolf Hitler, the German Field Marshall gave to Jews during the First World War, which finally saw the extermination of six million Jews residing in Germany during the war time.
But Nigeria is not at war with itself, not even during the civil war era, has such threat been recorded.
However, a Five-star traditional ruler has decided to play gods ahead the April 11 Gubernatorial election in Lagos State with threat to perish all the Igbos with their Children, should they vote against his candidate- Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressive Congress flagbearer.
Last Sunday, the flaming Oba told Igbos living in Lagos to vote for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akinwumi Ambode, or else they will die in the lagoon.
According to the report, a visibly angry Oba Akiolu, in a blatant threat, vowed that he was not ready to beg the Igbos, but if they repeated what they did on March 28, when they voted for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Goodluck Jonathan, and then they should be ready for the consequences.

The governorship elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, and it is believed that Igbo residents in Lagos would vote for the PDP candidate, Jimi Agbaje, just like they did during the presidential and National Assembly elections that led to the victory of PDP candidates of Igbo origin and from Delta State in three federal constituencies in Lagos.
It would recall that the victory of the non-indigenes of Lagos has not gone down well with the Lagos chapter of the APC.
Speaking at a meeting with Igbo leaders in the state, the first class monarch, who failed to recognise the cosmopolitan nature of Lagos, said: “On Saturday, if anyone of you go against Ambode who I picked, that is your end. If it doesn’t happen within seven days, just know that I am a bastard and it is not my father who gave birth to me”, Oba cried.
“Jonathan is my son and I speak to him every day. By the grace of God, I am the owner of Lagos for the time being. This is an undivided chair. The palace belongs to the dead and those coming in the future. On Saturday, if anyone of you, I swear in the name of God, goes against my wish that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos State, the person is going to die inside this water.
“I’m not ready to beg you. Nobody knew how I picked Ambode. Jimi Agbaje is my blood relation and I told him that he cannot be governor in Lagos for now. The future belongs to God. I am not begging anybody, but what you people cannot do in Onitsha, Aba or anywhere, don’t do it here.
“If you do what I want, Lagos will continue to be prosperous for you. If you go against my wish, you will perish in the water.”
The monarch said anybody against Ambode did not wish the state well, adding, “I am for the progress, growth and development of Lagos. Ambode is highly cerebral, he’s a symbol and he is going to deliver the message which I, the Oba of Lagos, have said. And he will govern the state for another eight years.
“He is going on a mission and God will give him the wisdom and knowledge to fulfil that mission. Almost a year ago, I declared that Ambode will be the next governor of Lagos and it will not change. “From time immemorial, the previous occupiers of this house will say what they wanted after consultations with other people. And this hasn’t changed and it will not change at this time,” he said.
In his response, one man who parades himself as the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, one Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised Akiolu that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode.
“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbos. It is not only the Igbos that was responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win.
“Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that we are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election,” he said.
Meanwhile, Eastern Union, a political cum social organisation in Abuja has reacted to Oba of Lagos comment disassociating themselves from the so-called Ezes in Lagos.
The President of EU, Charles Anike in Press Release made available to Newswatch Times decried to attitude of some selfish individuals who called themselves Ezes as speaking for themselves and not for the interest of Igbos in Lagos State.
Anike who was furious over the statement said Akiolu should know that Igbos cannot be cowed by mere talk and asked him to behave like a true elder statesman.
“We read with a shock, a statement credited to Oba Akiolu of Lagos to kill all Igbos in Lagos if they fail to vote for APC candidate”, Anike writes.
“We call on all our Igbo brothers and Sisters residence in Lagos to come out en-mass to vote the PDP Governorship candidate Mr. Jimi Agbaje, in the coming governorship election on Saturday April 11 without any fear of intimidation from any quarters”, he added.
“The Igbos did it in Presidential election and should be ready to do it again. Yes, it is true that President Jonathan lost to the APC candidate in the Presidential election but its clear the lgbo made their point clear”.
According to the EU leader, the Igbo don’t mince words when they mean to give their support to anybody and they cannot regret the support given to President Jonathan or Jimi Agbaje.
Anike said the statement credited to Oba of Lagos threatening the Igbo residents in Lagos showed clearly that most of our traditional rulers are out of tune with their gods.
Anike said such threat was least expected of a man who is supposed to be a father to all. According to him, traditional rulers and religious leaders are supposed to be neutral and not partisan and that his organisation does believe that Oba’s advisers should interpret his words clearly to him.
“We urge the lgbo and indeed the Easterners to troop out en-mass to excise their franchise without fear of any molestation. The Easterners have contributed in no small measure in the development and progress of Lagos state in particular and Nigeria in general. Their contribution to the building of Lagos state has been undermined by the successive regime of APC.
“Easterners have been harassed and over burdened with heavy taxation by Lagos State government”, Anike stated.
“The coming governorship election should be seen by Ndigbo in Lagos as a payback time to the recklessness and high handedness of Fashola administration against the Igbos in particular. The outgoing governor at several times closed down markets dominated by lgbo with flimsy excuses for months”.
According to Anike, the out-going governor went further to show his hatred for the Igbos when he deported some Igbos to Onitsha without any show of remorse. “At that time, we had expected Oba Akiolu to come out publicly to condemn the action of the governor but he never did. Since Oba Akiolu has now become partisan, we wonder what will happen to him if Mr. Jimi Agbaje wins”.
“Politics they say is the game of number and if that is really true, then there will be no reason why the lgbo should not use their vote to make a statement in the coming governorship election throughout the country and Lagos in particular.

He said the outgoing Lagos State governor has so neglected and frustrated Igbo people and we feel that this would be a payback moment.
“If the Igbos and Easterners in general feels more secured under Mr. Jimi Agbaje they must over look any threat and go out en-mass to use their PVC to prove their worth. We have at several time call and written to Mr. Fashola over the sufferings of our people in Lagos since his emergence as governor but all to no avail. His government has demolished Churches and our peoples' shops with impunity and without following due processes. Our people where burdened and still over burden with heavy taxation”.
He explained that politics in Nigeria has taken ethnic dimensions and there was no shying away from it. He disclosed that the northerners didn’t mince words with their voters to Gen. Buhari’s and neither did the Easterners too.
“We supported and still supporting President Jonathan and there is no regret about that. However we congratulate Gen.Buhari’s for victory. Those who don’t know should know that the Yoruba like the lgbo are scattered everywhere in Nigeria and living freely and doing their lawful business”, he added.
“They are not harassed anywhere or compel to vote against their conscience and as such lgbo and indeed the Easterners cannot be harass to vote against their conscience. We have sensitized and still sensitizing our people towards the coming election. Political campaign is supposed to be by persuasion and not by harassment and intimidation by royal fathers.” Yemi Adebowale, a Lagos resident was shock to read what was credited to Oba and said the traditional ruler erred on the path of honour. He said; “Now that Oba Akiolu has choose to play God over the people of Lagos state, he has forgotten Pharaoh, Herod, Nebuchadnezzar, etc I hope he will be ready to compete with God almighty himself who has the power to make Kings and dethrone them too. This is a big disgrace from a monarch”.
Uko Francis reacting to Oba’s comment said, that because of what Oba’s threat that Igbos and non-indigenes should vote for Agbaje.  “And on this note, I hereby call on all Igbos, Ijaws, Ibibios, Aniomas, Igbirras, Tivs, Idomas, Binis, and all non-haters of true democracy to vote for Jimi Agbaje, so that we can truly show he is a bastard indeed”.   Speaking further, a social commentator who refused to use his name added; “the Oba has unwittingly shot himself in the foot for I foresee a protest vote against his candidate Ambode. His unguarded utterance only goes on to prove that there are more to the contest for who owns Lagos than meets the eye. Thank God the ICC chiefs are still in Nigeria and this irresponsible outburst from Emperor Akiolu will not escape their attention”.
Nwosu Agaptus stated, monarch now politicians... “Vote for Ambode or you perish”. What happens to our freedom and right to vote whom we seek. This is pure injustice and partially driven interest articulation /self aggrandizement .Wonders without end. See Pharaoh vs. Moses for precedent”.
One Shola commenting on the issue said Nigerians in Lagos State should thank the Oba for indirectly helping Agbaje’s campaign by his outburst against Igbos and said no true son of Lagos or Yoruba land would be happy with the Oba.
“We should thank him; he has only helped Jimi Agbaje. No true son of Lagos State or Yoruba land will be happy with the paramount ruler who stoops this low”.
“Can someone call this ex- Police boss turned Oba to order? This is completely senseless. I had wanted to vote for Ambrose but I’ll dare this empty threat and vote for Agbaje. Nigeria is in serious trouble”.
Another Lagos State resident, one Franklyn Nonso said Nigeria is in a real democratic dispensation and doesn’t warrant such threats, especially when President Goodluck Jonathan has set the machinery for peace and democratic rights in motion and wondered why such an Oba should make such comment.  “You can be Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa or any other tribe for that matter. If the gubernatorial seat of Lagos State is ceremonial or part of his monarchy no problem but we are in a democratic dispensation and Nigeria is a Federal Republic”.
Mrs Silva Okey said she is afraid of Oba’s comment and said Nigeria is not truly one but just a finished country. “Nigeria is finished. See the way he is threatening our people and someone there will tell me Nigeria is one.  I can't believe a so called Oba can say this. I will vote Agbaje and there is nothing thus; oba can do. He can't even save himself let alone kill me. How will I die in Lagoon? Is it spiritually or he will send guys to kill me?  I'm waiting for anything to happen. If he killed one Ibo, Lagos will boil and he will be dethroned or killed in the crisis.” An unknown commentator who wishes not to use his name also quipped. “Remain self controlled, vote according to your wisdom not according to ethnic bias. The Igbo is just being used as a political tool. APC will see the Oba as he apparently desires and he will recant”.
Also reacting, a student criticised the Oba’s comment and said because of the threat, he has changed his mind and would vote for Jimi Agbaje on April 11.
“I was actually planning to vote for Ambode because I think Lagos has stayed long enough in federal opposition. But because of this rubbish from the Oba, I will be voting for Agbaje...let’s see if the Oba has any powers to stop me”
Ndi Favour called on all Igbos to see Oba’s comment as clarion call to vote for Agbaje. “Please, this should be a motivating factor to vote for Jimi. Let us see what this thug will do. His end will soon come”.
Jon West, Rivers State indigene wasn’t sure if the Oba made the statement credited to him or not but said no matter what happen such statement was very wrong coming from such person.
“This is unprecedented if true. In a democracy, a highly placed citizen is publicly threatening other citizens with death if they vote their conscience and he will get away with it. How will Nigerians feel if the Obi if Onitsha threatens the Hausa and Yoruba traders who populate Onitsha market with hell and brimstone if they fail to vote for his candidate in a local election”, he added
“Nigeria has really degenerated to its lowest abyss this time and this is a sign of things to come. From the triumphalism in Northern Nigeria, where the "mock coffin" of Jonathan is paraded publicly , while he is still a sitting President , to the verbal threats to South East and South South citizens all over the place, we are headed on the road to perdition as previously predicted”.

The prognosis for the future with this kind of bellicosity is not good and somebody should come out to rubbish Oba Akiolu and his minions. Nobody can threaten national security and get away with it, especially a retired Police AIG. Tinubu and Akiolu have finished Lagos and the citizens of Lagos should vote them out on Saturday”.
“I am happy that the Igbos does not listen to any "Chiefs" and are immune to fetish threats, and will vote in Jimi Agbaje. Let the Lagoon then swallow them and all the population of Lagos, including Tinubu, Fashola and the fetish Oba, whose predecessor's daughter was married to my village man. How Nigeria has deteriorated. Akiolu's daughter can definitely not take the same path again, and we have one country? To hell with Nigeria.”
Torino also questioned the rationale behind such comment. According to him, traditional rulers don’t take side when it comes to politics but was surprise to read such comment coming from an Oba. “I thought royal fathers are supposed to be neutral. Does the oba realize that we are not in medieval age and also this is politics where everybody is entitled to his opinion, even common sense suggests that too”, he queried. “If otherwise the constitution would have summoned only traditional rulers to hand-pick public office holders. Before I submit my thought, is this oba not a former police officer expected to be vast in the knowledge of human right”. Okwuchukwu David on his own stated that Oba Akiolu has unwittingly made himself a candidate for ICC just like Patience Jonathan.  “Igbos in Lagos State, please ignore him and the so called Eze Ndi Igbo in Lagos. Politics is a free choice game, vote Jimi Agbaje or Ambode or any other candidate of your choice. Oba Akiolu cannot force even his wives, children or extended family to vote for Ambode”.
