EMPTY TREASURY:What Did Buhari’s Government Do With $1.6b NLNG Dividend?

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (NLNG), says it has paid a $1.6billion dividend to the Muhammadu Buhari administration already.

NLNG is a joint venture between the government and foreign oil majors.
Three months after Nigerians voted Buhari as their president, he is yet to appoint ministers. Some people believe that he is confuse and incompetent, while some others think that he want to use this opportunity to loot the country’s resources, and recoup funds spent for his campaign.
The NLNG CEO, Babs Omotowa said since 1999, NLNG had generated about 85 billion dollars from exports since its inception 15 years ago and also paid billions of dollars to Nigerian government in tax.
According to him, ‘Just a few days ago, we paid 1.6 billion dollars to the government as tax and this will go a long way to assist the new government in solving some of its problems”.
Billions of dollars generated from the sales of Liquified Natural Gas in Nigeria is being looted, while the owner of the resources live in abject poverty.
