EFCC Seeks Civil Societies' Support Against Corruption

The Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has again called on the Civil Society Organisations, CSOs, to lend their support to the fight against economic and financial crimes in the country.
Magu made the appeal today during an interactive session with a coalition of civil society organisations at the Lagos Zonal office of the Commission. He said the support of the group was critical at this crucial time. “You mirror the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians and you are also catalysts in the social mobilisation process. We need your strength to energise the fight against corruption in Nigeria.” He acknowledged the role the CSOs in the fight against corruption. “Your individual pedigree is not in doubt. Many of you have in time past suffered personal pains and deprivation in the battle for a better Nigeria. Now that the opportunity is here to achieve our dream Nigeria, we cannot afford to be complacent because the task at hand is enormous,"he said.
He called on the CSOs to sensitise the people on the ills of corruption and its consequences on the society. “The times call for vigilance by all in following cases of corruption under prosecution to ensure that we put everyone on their toes. This would ensure not only the speedy determination of such matters but that there is fairness and equity in the process and outcomes,” he noted.
Olanrewaju Suraju of the Civil Societies Network Against Corruption, CSNAC, who led the group, pledged the cooperation of the CSOs to the activities of the EFCC. Other speakers commended Magu for revamping the fight against corruption. Among members of the CSOs present were Edetaen Ojo, Executive Director, Media Right Agenda; Nelson Ekujumi, Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate; Shina Loremi K. Campaign Against Impunity; Ugwumadu Malachy, President CDHR; Debo Adeniran, Executive Chairman, CACOL and a host of others.
