EFCC Press Release
The Consular General of the United States of America in Nigeria, Jeffrey Hawkins, has
commended the strides being made by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, in its task of ridding the nation of economic and financial
crimes.
Hawkins gave the commendation in Lagos August 6 at a training programme
organized by the American Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, for operatives
of some law enforcement agencies including the EFCC. According to him, “the
EFCC has been outstanding in the fight against corruption and financial crimes,
which is why the collaboration between the EFCC, America Embassy and the FBI
has been cordial over the years”.
On the training programme,
which focused on Crime Scene Investigation and Photography, Hawkins expressed
optimism that the operatives of all the agencies would benefit maximally from
it.
Operatives from the National
Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA; Nigeria Police; Republic of Benin
and the EFCC participated in the one-week training. It was facilitated by a
team of experts from the FBI. The training comprised both theoretical and
practical exposure to the investigation and photographic capture of crime
scenes.
In a remark at the end of the programme,
EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, reinforced the significance of the training
in prosecution of criminal cases in court. "I believe you have acquired
the deep knowledge involved in crime scene investigation. It will add value to
you and your organizations. The training will enhance your capabilities. Your
abilities to protect crime scenes and demonstrate the evidence in the court of
law makes you a thorough investigator", he said.
Lamorde, who was represented by Director Planning, Policy and
Statistics, Dr. David Tukura, expressed appreciation to the FBI. “The FBI
has been our faithful friend in the area of training and support, they have
been a pillar", he said.
