EFCC Press Release: Fake EFCC official Nabbed

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  has arrested one   Oluwasegun Sanni (also known as Nicholas), a street footballer,  for allegedly parading himself as an official of the Commission. He was picked up on Wednesday November 20, 2013 in Ikoyi, Lagos .
Sanni was arrested while he was collecting a bribe of N450,000( Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira only) he  fraudulently demanded from one Alhaji A. Abubakar whom he had earlier called to come to the office of the EFCC to respond to a fictitious petition allegedly written against him.
The suspect allegedly approached Abubakar about a month ago that he wanted to assist him “kill” a petition written against him by some un-named petitioners. Abubakar reported the approach to the EFCC and he was advised to play along. The efforts paid off when Sanni showed up on Wednesday to receive the bribe. He was promptly arrested.
Upon his arrest, Sanni feigned innocence and blamed his woes on one Mark Kennedy, whom he said requested him to collect the bribe from Abubakar. “I met Mark Kennedy in a football viewing centre in Ketu, Lagos. He was the one who sent me to the EFCC’s office to meet Alhaji Abubakar. I don’t know Kennedy’s address and what he does for a living”,  he said.
He will soon be arraigned in court.
