REMINDER TO ACHEBE AS HE BEGINS HIS JOURNEY TOMORROW

Sir, i still need to remind you not to forget my message to the founding fathers of MY Beloved Country, Nigeria as you begin your journey Tomorrow.
I know you have not forgotten my message. Remember What  I said you should tell Zik, Awo, Ojukwu, Balewa, Sauduana ,Murtala, even Lord Luggard and Shaw. I mean that letter i wrote to you on March 24, 2013 ·
Please sir, i wished to be in Ogidi, but from the look of things, I may not make it again but when going, please go well. Take care. Again, I want you to know that this country loves you. Despite your rejection of their National Honours, the country is still bent on giving you one.
They have taken over your burial party which I know you would never permit if you were awake to speak. In fact, i remember what my father told me that when the dead propose; the living disposes.
They have said CAPITAL NO to your rejection of those honours. Please forgive them. Do you know that two Anglican church are fighting over your corpse and who will bury you? Do you know that President Jonathan has finally declared State of Emergency in the three states in the North? Do you know that there is a debate going on that you are not father of African Literature; a title you never claimed even when you were here. Do you know that those calling you godfather of African literature now were you critics some years back. Daddy, if you happen to see my own father, the late Duru Ibemere, tell him that his grandchildren have increased in numbers and that Imo State is experiencing new leadership.
Tell him that he should tell our family angels to try and see God ON OUR Behalf and grant us quick economic recovery.
Here is what I wrote then in case if you have forgotten: “The guru is gone. Papa Achebe is gone. Sir, safe journey. Have you seen Ojukwu? Please tell him that his brothers and sisters are experiencing another pogrom in Kano State. What of Awo? If you have come across him, tell him that Nigeria is preparing for another war.
What of the great ZIK of Africa?  Please let him know that those things that made him to cross the Atlantic Ocean 50 times seeking for peace is looming again.
Have you seen Yar’Adua?  Let him know too; that amnesty, that evil seed is causing wahala in Nigeria, that even some monstrous elements have started asking for it. Tell him that it has even been extended to convicted criminals who looted the nation dry.
What of Tafawa Balewa?  Don’t fail to let him know that his own scions are now carrying weapons against Nigeria.
Obviously you may not see Abacha, but if you see any one who will see him, tell him that 18 years after his reign,  Mustapha is still in Kirikiri, kept by those who have skeletons in their cupboard.
What of MKO?  Please, Sir, remember to tell him that another June 12 is looming.
Dear Achebe, who else have you seen since that night you joined your ancestors? Please don’t discuss Nigerian problem with them but just tell them that truly There was a Country, only that Things have Fallen Apart and Nigeria is No Longer at Ease  Once again, remind them that the Arrow of God is now pointing at all of us, especially all of them who kept us in this mess.
