These Jobs may go into extinction in Nigeria

DO you work as a photographer, hunter, secretarial officer, forest guard, dry cleaner, or Newspaper vendor?  What about House help, Librarian, cyber cafe operator, bank teller, and marketer?  You have to start looking for a new job. Why:
Daily Signpost investigation says the Information Technology and Communication (ITC), or in a lay man’s understanding internet and the process of off- shoring; will see your jobs becoming obsolete within 15 years in Nigeria- In short, your jobs are going into extinction.
The safest jobs are in industries that rely on face-to-face contact and interactions, such as hotel jobs, trades, government and teaching.

This is so because with the proliferation of technology and internet system, such jobs might either fade away or morphed into updated versions of their former selves.

Experts suggest that with an online shopping and with its deep deals and sheer ease, which has won over customers; marketing jobs are soon to disappear.

Investigation has shown that more Nigerians are going on-line to do their shopping than going to the marketer.
Sales lady at Shoprite in Ikeja says this holiday season of Easter celebration, online sales is likely going to increase by 37% for the department stores that are online while the sales on counter may drop to 4.6%.
Some few years ago, some career like cyber cafes were springing up everywhere across the country. Despite the high cost of getting internet service from the ISPs, and electricity problems in Nigeria, cyber cafes still made some nice profits as many persons took to the new fad of daytime and even night browsing.

The yahoo- yahoo boys contributed to keeping cyber cafes busy as well. Despite the high cost of getting internet service.
today, however, in almost every major neighbourhood you find cyber cafes are shutting down business.

It therefore worries one a bit to see several persons still making serious enquiries as to how to set up a cyber cafe business even when they see 50% of Nigerian youths pinging, tweeting and browsing with their phones without having to enter cyber-cafe.

While we may not want to sound discouraging, the basic foundation to setting a viable business is looking at immediate future prospects of such business idea.

Giving the evolving and present economic condition in Nigeria, setting up a cyber cafe is not a very wise decision. Unless the investor has the capacity to add several other revenue channels to boost but the bottom-line is that Black Berry revolution is killing cyber-cafe career opportunities.

With the evolution of e-banking, e-commerce, e-payment which includes ATM operation and self-checkout has eased our need for cashiers and bank tellers. These are the reasons while a career as a bank teller is going into extinction.
However, Chinedu Onyeanuforo, Managing Director of VENJUL VENJURES and former banker says, it wasn’t possible that bank teller would be extinct.
“I don't think bank tellers will be extinct because majority of bank customers are not lettered to use ATM and other on-line and mobile banking systems. So, I don’t think bank tellers will go into extinction as a career”, he stated.
Also, the computer age which has taken the job of File Clerks, this explains that the career is on its way out of extinction.
Telephone Operators may as well be looking for other career as different networks are lowering their tariffs for cheap calls. Moreso when everybody is going about with their phones.
Just like File Clerks, Data Entry Clerks at the moment are enjoying the last days of their career for this job is definitely going extinct.
Equally, Mail Clerks has to start looking for a new career. The introduction of handsets killed posting Mail Bag (PMB), or Post Office Box (POB), except the specialized mailing of bulky goods and services which will absorb fee hands; the career is an endangered one.

Photography, this is one career that has gradually gone into extinction. With micro-digital cameras and phones, you don’t need a photographer any more.  Travel Agents are also in for more trouble. This is because with booking and travel details accessible online now, almost anyone can research destinations, make reservations and be their own agent. As customers go online to book their flights, there is no need for travel agents again in the next 15 years.
Majority of corporate organizations and universities’ libraries, including the local libraries are online. A librarian and a civil servant with National Library in Abuja, who pleaded not to be mentioned disagrees with the story.
He said people would still enjoy reading books the old-fashioned way and appreciate research help. But our investigation revealed that the new librarian is a digital archivist, savvy with searches, keywords and helpful websites.
Newspaper Vendor: The online newspapering has the potency of keeping newspaper vendor out of career. With Black Berry phones and other sophisticated phones available, there are tendencies that people will be going online to read their papers and won’t care again; the services of a vendor, especially with subscription strategy of selling the papers; vendors may be an old school thing. No more homeowners climbing ladders to retrieve yesterday's news from the gutter or drying out the sports section across the family room floor.
Farming: With urbanization and development coupled with automation and corporate conglomerates which have plowed under many family farms, leaving malls and shopping plazas in their wake, farming in Nigeria might be extinct.
Supermarket cashier: e-commerce and self-checkout have eased our need for cashiers. Turns out we can crush our own bread and break the eggs at roughly the same rate and with less of a wait. Customers do more of the labour. CCTV monitors and facilitate and the business goes on with cashier.
Party DJ: those organizing parties and weddings including buries are hardly employing the services of Disc Jockeys (DJs). With available home theaters, the needs for DJs are no longer necessary, as people use their home theaters for party.
House help: This is another career also going out of practice. People are not keen in releasing their wards again to people as a house help. With some countries’ legislation on child slavery and abuse of children through child trafficking, there is tendency that the career may go into oblivion in no near future.
Laundering: Technology is advancing and means of living is also changing. The evolution of domestic washing machines and dryers in many homes are placing launderers out of job. Many house wives now look inwards rather than patronizing their local neighbour dry-cleaners.
Huntsman: this age long career has long stopped existing because of novel hunting systems. While the art and tradition of hunting has remained the same throughout the years, technology has improved. As a result, people now tame and rear the animals for their own use and for commercial purposes. Instead of the huntsman to go after animals in the jungle during nights, he prefers to rear them before selling them to his clients.
Forest guard as a career has become an extinct career in some advanced countries only to where forestation is a norm. In some cities hardly there exist forests, talk more of a guard guiding the forest. Forest guard or forest police career has also been affected by deforestation in some states where development is on rapid increase, as forests give way to malls and shopping plazas.
