PRESIDENT JONATHAN: THE MAN WITH RARE CONFIDENCE BY CHRIS NWOKEJI

President Goodluck Jonathan has changed the face of Nigeria with confidence. Nigeria is blessed with different kinds of natural resources. A leader who utilizes his country’s natural resources effectively to develop it is considered proactive than one who does not care as was the case in Nigeria for so many years.

A country is said to be developing when the socio-economic conditions of the people improves a great deal.  Moreover, in an undeveloped country the most common is abject poverty and hunger, poor sanitation and healthcare delivery services, public safety, infrastructure and lack of essential services.

Jonathan is the first President who has clear cut policy direction since Nigeria’s Independence and this stands him out from the rest. In fact, his distinguished administrative approaches include process of planning for social and economic development projects and programs. Clearly, his style of leadership has created opportunities for citizens in the long run.

Jonathan has implemented major policies to considerably reduce poverty in Nigeria. For the first time in Nigeria, government has made far reaching enhancement to industrial development through promotion of agriculture. Since the growing requirements for food are so incremental, the fundamental need is to grow more of it on a regular basis and it is happening right now.

The President’s policy actions in reduced food importation by about 45%. Local production of cassava, cocoa, cotton, plantain, and yam has increase very considerably. For instance, the President did not only provide the delivery of inputs for modern agricultural production, and skills of the farmers, but he also built infrastructure to increase agricultural productivity in the country.

In addition, technology exists to increase agricultural production and attract more than four billion Dollars in private investment in the agricultural sector alone. In order for the President to succeed he added delivery of infrastructural skills and inputs for modern agricultural production.

Another level of development include education, road, power, finance, commerce and industry. The President’s social and economic plans for developmental projects are carried out in all the thirty six states of Nigeria. Sincerely, the President has achieved in these sectors of the economy through the government’s Transformation Agenda.

Significant in the president’s development projects is the development of the power sector. President Jonathan recently commissioned Geregu Power Project in Kogi and Omotosho 2 Power station in Ondo State. Additionally, the other eight major power plants are still under construction. They are, Alaoji, Calabar, Egbema, Gbarain, Ihorvbo , Olarunsogo,  Omoku, and Sapele

Since 1960 when Nigeria gained independence, this is the first time that a Niger Deltan is the President of Nigeria. All Nigerians should watch their comments because Nigeria does not belong to any one region. It belongs to all of us and President Jonathan has the right to re-contest in 2015 elections. It is clear that the main source of resources used to develop Nigeria comes from the South-Eastern states and no section of the country should even think of monopolizing the office of the president.

Again, we should exercise caution when criticizing the President because he is a competent administrator with a comprehensive approach towards the development process, involving natural resources, with social and economic indices to show.

All things considered, President Jonathan is the best we have ever had because he understands the complexities and approach to building a modern Nigeria with organizational systems that would accommodate all the functions of the government.

Perhaps, his new approach to doing things on a daily basis has shown how competent and great his measure of administrative independence and decision making is. He has shown that as a nation, we could be politically and administratively independent over a long period of time without misunderstanding and tensions as in the case of Boko Haram. Suffice it to say that some Nigerians at the helm started and sponsored Boko Haram and sooner or later it would become a fad.

In conclusion, the president’s economic and infrastructural development plans are all-encompassing and are carried out in all the 36 states of the country. Jonathan fought tirelessly and courageously for Nigeria to be recognized as a member of the Security Council and the number one economic power in Africa.

Countries are prepared for six or eight year periods in order to assure proper coordinate decisions on programs and projects. I therefore urge that we should all pause and reflect the progress the country has made since President Jonathan became the president of Nigeria.

Hence, we should stop destroying the character of a sitting president because he is moving the country in the right direction, after so many years of incoherent policies that dwarfed the country’s external and internal fiscal conditions, causing massive inflation, unemployment, poverty, Boko Haram and under development in all the states of Nigeria.
