Horrible! Young Nigerians donate sperm for money

There are indications that young Nigerians desperate for money are now donating their sperm for money after taking stimulating hormones or drugs to make them to produce more sperm, investigations by Daily Signpost can revealed.
Worse is that the deal are been struck at quack hospitals in Lagos State, especially in Mushin, Oshodi and other areas were they are paid instantly.
The amount paid for the illicit deal ranges from N50, 000 to N100, 000 depending on the negotiation power of the donor.
Earlier February this year, a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, Global Profile Alliance raised alarm over the act and quickly condemned the rate at which young men involve in commercial sperm donation in Nigeria.
Chairman of the NGO, Dr Philip Njemanze, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, advised them against commercial sperm donation to prevent fertility problems later in life.
According to him, young men were most times being given stimulating hormones or drugs to make them to produce more sperm.
“The boys donating sperm now for N50, 000, each times you give out a part of yourself, it has a detrimental effect. “What happens is that sperm can be got from self service, but after a while, there will be a detrimental effect”, he added.
“Because you needed N50, 000 today, tomorrow you need more money and you will need more money and tomorrow they start giving stimulating hormones.“This will eventually have a telling effect on your ability to have good sexual life when you need your own children, no more for donation. “So, it has a very detrimental effect and I believe that we should stop all this now,” he said.
It was gathered that stimulating hormones sometimes given to donors could have serious consequences such as hormonal imbalances in men. Njemanze said that hormonal imbalance could also cause depression, erectile dysfunction, muscle weakness, weak libido and prostate problems, adding that fertility problems might set in.
He therefore urged healthcare providers to educate the public on the dangers of commercial sperm donation, as he noted that most young men who get into it do so as a result of poverty.
